Child Dedications FAQs

What is child dedication?

Child dedications are powerful moments in our church where parents entrust their child's life and future to God. In making this decision as a parent, you are committing to live a life to the best of your ability that displays the faith, values and character of Christ. Parents have the opportunity to express publicly their commitment to raising their child in the ways of the Lord. It’s a wonderful moment!

What’s the difference between child water baptism and child dedication?

At C3 New Hope, we believe that water baptism is an external expression of an internal decision to follow Jesus. This is something a child is unable to decide until they are able to comprehend this decision and are willing to make it for themselves. Child christenings are not wrong and it’s ok if you have been christened, however, we practice child dedication as an expression of the parents to present their child to the Lord willingly and wholeheartedly - then later, a child can choose to be water baptised.

Why should I dedicate my child/children?

Child dedication is a powerful step in the raising of a child. It is a great opportunity to acknowledge God with gratitude, thanking Him for the gift of our children. We come to God seeking His guidance and wisdom as parents to raise our children and to lead them in the ways of the Lord.

Child dedication is a great milestone in the life of a family showing a willingness in taking the next step in their journey of being a Christ follower.

Where is child dedication in the bible?

The two main passages of scripture where it talks about child dedication are found in:

Luke 2:22-24

1 Samuel 1:24-28
